A Perfect Union of Medicine and Art: PhytoHealth's Innovative ESG Practice

PhytoHealth is committed to promoting ESG (environmental, social, and governance) principles and has launched an innovative program that reuses the Astragalus residue left over from new drug production to make handmade paper bookmarks, reducing the energy and carbon emissions needed to incinerate herbal residue waste and demonstrating the company's commitment to environmental protection.

The creative inspiration came from a special exhibition on papermaking with Chinese medicinal herbs held in 2023 by the Lifu Museum of Chinese Medicine at China Medical University. Through an introduction from the museum's deputy director, Professor Chang Wen-Te, the well-known artist Hsiao Yu-Ling served as art consultant, guiding the design of the bookmarks and personally painting the journey of Astragalus membranaceus from seed germination, flowering, and pod formation to the extraction of slices from its medicinal root, symbolizing the transformation from traditional herb to modern refined extract and interpreting the fusion of nature and science.

The handmade Astragalus residue bookmarks incorporate an Eastern ink-wash style and display a unique artistic value. As bookmarks they are not only practical but also carry cultural and artistic value, becoming a symbol of the company's promotion of green creativity and sustainable development.
